Q: I would like to purchase several shares of Disney stock as a gift for my grandchildren. Do I need to go through a broker or can I do it myself?

A: Great idea. Stock shares make a thoughtful and lovely gift for a grandchild … maybe do it every year! Here are the two easiest ways to do it:

To buy more than one share, simply call several discount brokers in your area (Schwab, Ameritrade, Scottrade, etc.) and purchase shares from the first with the lowest complete price (the purchase price of the stock, commission, register and ship fee.)

If you’d like to buy just one share of stock, I recommend going through www.oneshare.com (888-777-6919) to purchase and register a share of any one of many companies. They will even beautifully frame it.
