  Warning: You May Be Overpaying!

It's tax season, and as you're doing your returns or working with your preparer, we have an important question for you: Would you let the IRS tell you what you owe on your income taxes?

Didn't think so! We wouldn't either.

Well, then, why assume that the property tax bill you received from your local government is accurate?

Many American homeowners are facing a double whammy right now: Their taxes are higher because of the rise in housing prices prior to the current mortgage meltdown, but…their homes are now declining in value!
It's a rotten – and potentially very expensive – position to be in.

There is a real chance you could be overpaying. We're always surprised to hear how many homeowners never take the time to check, let alone challenge, how their local government calculates their property tax bill.

Try this statistic on for size: About two-thirds of the time that homeowners challenge their tax bill, they are successful in getting their property taxes reduced…sometimes by a little, sometimes by a LOT!

So let's get to it. Let us show you exactly how it's done. Click here to watch our step-by-step guide to challenging your property taxes and reclaiming your money!

  Without Going Broke

Good news! Summer is just around the corner!

I (Ken here) know, some of you still have snow on the ground and a frosty bite in the air. But now that we're in March, spring starts in just a few weeks.

Here's my favorite clue that summer is coming: My Red Sox (World Champions, I might add) are now training for the start of the baseball season…in fact on Monday, our daughter, Meredith, and her husband, Keith, went to a Red Sox spring training game in Jupiter, Florida!

For many of us, the prospect of warmer weather means it's time to start thinking about our summer vacations. Now, we realize that times are tough right now (we continue to believe we're in a recession), and you may think that you just can't afford a nice vacation.

That's not necessarily true…if you know a few key travel secrets. Daria and I are just the ones to tell you!

We have 4 Dolan Travel Tips for you to help you plan that perfect vacation without going broke. Read our tips now to discover how you can save hundreds of dollars, and we'll also tell you where to look for the best deals.

Consumer prices were up more than expected in January, and we're once again hearing about fears of inflation. Inflation is a retirement killer. It's a lot like a leaky basement: All you need is a little inflation to do serious damage over the years.    $4 a Gallon?!

Unfortunately, it's likely that we'll be paying that for gasoline in the very near future.

Oil prices climbed to record highs in the last week, and gas prices are also jumping. According to AAA, the national average for regular unleaded gasoline rose to $3.16 last week, which is not far from the record high of $3.23 we hit last May. And we're not even into the summer driving season yet when prices are typically their highest.

We've seen some forecasts that we'll hit $3.40 a gallon for the national average, but you know what that means: In some areas, we'll probably see $4!

Either way, every extra penny spent on gas is one that we could have saved, invested or spent on something much more fun!

That's why it's more important than ever that you do everything you can to lessen the pain at the pump. It doesn't have to be difficult, either. Click here for 4 simple ways you can save on gasoline.

Sincerely,

Dolans
