  7 Steps to Financial Freedom

If you’ve known us for any length of time, you know how much we love helping folks like you with all of your money concerns. We’re blessed to be able to do that in many different ways: through Dolans.com, our national radio show, books, personal appearances, seminars, and so on.

We especially like the seminars. Why? Because we get to roll up our sleeves and really tackle the tough money issues that change people’s lives: getting out of debt, saving for the retirement of your dreams, paying for your children’s college education, and many more.

Of course, if you wanted to come to one of our seminars, you would have to wait until we came to your area or go to the trouble (and expense) of traveling to where we’re going to be.

Not anymore. Now you can attend your very own Dolans’ seminar — right here on your computer! You can watch it whenever it’s convenient for you and at your own pace. You can even stop and start as many times as you’d like if you want to take notes.

We have just announced our first ever-webinar, 7 Steps to Financial Freedom, and the response has been overwhelming. We don’t want you to miss out. In fact, we’re so excited that we want to give you a special sneak preview! Watch the excerpt now.

Join us for the entire seminar, won’t you? We’ll get you started on the path to financial freedom, and we’ll definitely have some fun in the process! (Click here to learn how you can reserve your spot today.)

Live Richer in Just 30 Days

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that times are getting tough out there. The economy is stalling, the stock market is falling and the Fed is in a panic.

No wonder we’re hearing from so many of our readers that they are planning to do some serious belt-tightening.

30-Day Quick-Start Spending PlanBut let’s you and me get one thing straight… you can live better, live richer, without sacrificing.

You see, no matter how you look at it, ultimately, money is for one thing. Spending. Whether it’s you spending it, or your heirs. But how you spend now can have a life-changing impact on how much you’ll have to spend later, say in retirement.

We can show you how to save hundreds if not thousands of dollars without giving up a thing. And you can do this by saving money the Dolan way—without sacrificing, without living like a pauper and without being bored to tears!

What to Do When Disaster Strikes

Does it seem like our weather is more violent than it used to be? Maybe it’s because we live in Florida and sweat out hurricanes ever year, but it sure feels that way to us.

You’ve no doubt heard about the most recent weather-related tragedies – tornadoes and storms that killed more than 50 people in the Midwest. It was the deadliest outbreak of storms in more than 20 years, and our hearts go out to all of the victims.

In addition to mourning their loved ones, a lot of folks now need to rebuild their lives. We can’t imagine how overwhelmed they must feel. One thing we do know is that those who had a plan in place before disaster struck will overcome this tragedy faster and better than those who didn’t.

Preparing for a disaster is never a pleasant thought, but it’s something we all need to do – and we need to do it before it’s too late. We’ve done it, and we want to help you:

We can’t urge you strongly enough to take full advantage of these resources and attend to this important matter right now. We hope you never live through a disaster, but if you do, you’ll be so glad that you were prepared.

Many thanks to all of you who have sent in your "secrets" to making your marriage work. We love reading them all, but this one warmed our hearts so much that we just had to share it with you:

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Dolan,

You hit the nail on the head in your Valentine video - HUMOR! (Click here to watch the video.) My husband still makes me laugh (often) after just thirteen short years of "Holy matrimony" and I return the favor as often as possible. We still go on dates, talk every day and enjoy each other’s company, too!

Just yesterday, while sitting in a restaurant, David picked up my hand and kissed it, as he does most anytime we sit together. An older couple at the next table asked if we were newlyweds and after we told them how long we have been married, they seem to be at a loss for words. I could tell by the look on her face that that they had long forgotten the little things. When we left, that other couple was holding hands!

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day!
Joanne

Thanks for your email, Joanne, and continued happiness to you and David.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our Dolans.com family!

Oh, and if you buy a gift or go out to dinner, try to pay cash. (Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves!)

Straight Talk Tip

If you’re moving out of state, you typically take great care in changing bank accounts, medical records, licenses, mailing addresses and all kinds of items from your daily life.

But while all this is being done, one thing seems to go unchanged for all too many people – their cell phone.

Most of us are taxed at twice the rate on our cell phones, more than about every other good or service. If you’ve lived in a state with a high cell phone tax and move to a state with a cheaper tax, your cell phone should change too.

Taxes on cell phones are highest in Nebraska, Washington state, New York, Florida and Texas. Some rates run as high as 18%, which is crazy.

So when you move, move your cell phone, too. You might well save big bucks on your taxes!

Renters Need Insurance, Too

Even if you’re a renter, you need to protect yourself against loss of property and injury to anyone in your home. We recommend you buy a “tenant’s policy.” Get a policy that has coverage for fire, burglary and personal injury liability.

Learn much more in our Insurance section at Dolans.com.

  Social Security Warning

The first of the baby boomers is turning 62, and many of them will immediately sign up for Social Security benefits. Not so fast! Before you rush out to your local office to sign up, hear me (Daria here) out.

Starting to receive Social Security at age 62 will mean giving up 25% of your benefit – forever! Are you sure you can afford to go without that money?

Here’s another important consideration a lot of people overlook: If you’re the primary breadwinner in the family, you’re doing your spouse a serious disservice.

If you die, your spouse can continue to receive his or her own Social Security payment OR 100% of yours, whichever is larger. By drawing Social Security early, the primary wage earner leaves the partner with only 75% of what he or she might have received otherwise.

This is a question more and more people will face in the coming years, so be sure to think it through thoroughly. For more of our advice, listen to our audio alert about just when to take Social Security, and read our introduction to Social Security to make sure you know the ins and outs!

Sincerely,

Dolans
