#6: New car rust-proofing and undercoating

If you’re about to purchase a new car, here’s one “extra” you should drive away without.

Most new car dealers are "kind" enough to offer a rust-proofing package, but they’re usually very expensive — as much as $500 on up. Options such as these are where dealers make most of their money.

In this day and age, you don't really need undercoating and rust work, but if you want it, get it done at a local specialist ... AFTER you drive off the lot. You probably won’t pay more than $75 and you’ll have the same protection for a fraction of the price.

Be aware, though, that many new car models do not require rust-proofing.
