Under Medical Care? Secure Travel Insurance
My mother loves to travel and she never makes reservations without buying travel insurance. And with hurricanes and terrorist scares, more people are doing the same, but is it worth the cost?
Before you buy travel insurance, take into consideration a few realities.
Cancel for any reason policies usually cost a minimum of 40% more than standard policies and often refund only 75%.
If you're buying for hurricane disruption or a potential terrorist attach, it's probably not covered. If the policy does cover terrorism it will most likely impose strict limitations such as an attack at your destination within 30 days of your departure and will not cover other cities in a country where an attack has taken place.
My mother doesn't buy for hurricanes or terrorists, though. She buys it for medical care which is important because her medical insurance isn't accepted overseas.
But even these policies are filled with exclusions.

Child Savings AccountsWhen opening a savings account for your child, make sure their Social Security number is used as the account's tax identification number. That way, as long as your child is under age 14, interest earned will be taxed at your child's lower tax rate, not at your tax rate. This rule holds true as long as your child earns less than $1,300 a year in interest. |
