I (Ken here) absolutely love sports, which you probably already know. I’ve played them through the years and watched them all of my life. I think one of the most appealing things is that you know who wins and who loses because you keep score. This notion of “keeping score” is now more important than ever to your personal financial well-being in the midst of the current financial tsunami. I’m talking specifically about your credit score. A good credit score is critical because it opens the door for competitive interest rates on mortgages, credit cards and other forms of loans. It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are right around the corner! Hey, what about us? We’re hearing all about the transition from George Bush to Barack Obama and what the new president will try to accomplish, but has he contacted me (Daria here) yet? Of course not. But all kidding aside, we’ve been asked what we would do if we were president of the United States. And since I have the bigger mouth of the two of us when it comes to politics, I’m more than happy to step up to the podium and share the top 10 priorities of a DOLAN administration. I have no doubt that some of these ideas will surprise you, and I suspect you’ll cheer along with some of them, but you may disagree with a few, too. That’s OK. That’s what this great country is all about. But had these priorities been followed up until now, I dare say we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in. If at all possible in these tough times, try to continue contributing to your qualified retirement plan such as an IRA, 401(k), etc.—especially if you have a plan through your employer, which also provides matching contributions. We recommend that you invest the money conservatively (as close to GUARANTEED as possible), but maintaining the flow of those contributions now will pay off for you in a big way down the road. 
Before you shop for children’s toys this holiday season, remember to put safety at the top of your priority list. Each year the list of recalls for unsafe toys shows that practically no manufacturer goes unnamed. Be sure to carefully heed the guidelines of age on toy packaging, and look for a marking that the toy meets voluntary industry safety standards.
