They say there's no such thing as a free lunch, right? Well…you may find this shocking in our current economy, but you really can get a free lunch—if you know where to look. How about free movies? Free groceries would be nice, too, right? If you want to get really crazy, you can even travel for free! There are, believe it or not, plenty of things you can get for free (or very close to it). The key, of course, is knowing just how to find them. Start right here and now with our list of 10 fabulous freebies! We'll even share a few websites that list thousands of free things from hundreds of different companies. Free is good anytime, but especially in this day and age when every penny counts. Don't miss these ultimate bargains! Check out the list here. Can you believe it? According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas dipped under $3 for the first time since February! (Seems longer than that, doesn't it?) So, now that it costs us a little less to drive to the store, surely the prices of goods inside the store will also come down, right? Yeah, and my (Ken here) Red Sox still have a shot at winning the World Series. (They fought hard, though, and I was very proud of them!) You didn't think those nice grocery store people would actually lower the prices after they raised them, did you? No, the truth is that box of cereal, gallon of milk and six pack of beer will continue to cost you more than they did earlier this year. You can't quit eating, of course, but you can hang on to more of your hard-earned money when grocery shopping. We want to help you do just that with some "insider savings tips" from our own experience as well as from an actual store manager (that's really inside). In fact, we have so many savings ideas that we divided them into two parts. Take a walk with us down the aisle in part one and start saving now, and then be sure to come back and check out part two for even more terrific tips to help you be the smartest shopper you can be!
Whew. $4-a-gallon gasoline was no fun, and it's nice that we can relax now that we have that problem behind us…at least for the time being. What?! You mean we can't relax? Not by a long shot. Both the global recession and financial crisis have weakened demand for gas and oil and helped flush out some of the speculators that sent prices soaring, but the underlying problem has not changed one bit. Yes, we should enjoy the temporary reprieve, but lower gas and oil prices have distracted attention from what is still one of the most crucial issues that President McCain or President Obama will face over the next four years. It's also a crucial issue for our wallets. So, as you decide for whom to vote on November 4, we strongly encourage you to consider each candidate's position on ENERGY. We've done some digging for you and put together a few highlights to get you started. Click here for our special election energy primer. And don't forget to continue with those little things that can add up to big savings. The habits that you form now will save you a ton of money later! (Here are 5 easy ways to fight high gas prices.) Sincerely,
