I know its a tall order but I wish for peace on earth and that no child goes to bed hungry and neglected.
My Letter to Santa
Dear Santa,
Since my letter to you last year went unanswered (it must have gotten lost in the Christmas rush) I'm writing you a little earlier this year.
Considering what a good girl I've been, I'm hoping that this year you will grant me just a few of my Christmas wishes. (Not to belabor the point but I had so hoped for at least ONE or two of my requests be answered the last time around).
Still, I continue to believe in you and your magical powers.
So here is my list for this year.
- I do hope that you can bring me a little tax reform that would cut back on the bookkeeping and hours and weeks spent calculating to pay my fair share.
I'm afraid that the tax code complexity has made me pay more than my fair share while others with high-priced accountants have paid less.
I'd be happy with either a flat or a fair tax. I'm not picky.
...and while I'm on the tax discussion...could you please bring Warren Buffet a brand new 2011 tax form with the line for "added donations to the U.S. Treasury" highlighted.
Maybe this way he'll be able to pay what HE thinks he should over and above current rates and leave the rest of us regular folks alone.
- I would also love anything in gold...bars, bullion, coins, jewelry, whatever.
There's no way we can keep printing bogus bucks without inflation so some gold will come in handy.
- For John Corzine, who allegedly "misplaced" billions of investors' dollars at MF Global, it would be so nice if you could bring him a course in risk management and a copy of "Prison Life For Dummies." He could really use both gifts.
- I would like you to give the Department of Energy a quick course in venture capital so that maybe next year they won't be "investing" $538,000,000 in the next Solyndra-type green energy business that goes belly up.
- For Government General Motors...it would be so nice if you brought them a consumer study about car and truck consumer likes and dislikes.
Maybe this way they won't sink a fortune into another Chevy Volt concept that no one is buying and that seems to have a number of safety problems.
- For the Black Friday hoards who look like a pack of wolves every year pushing and shoving for bargains, please bring copies of the videos from TV news showing how truly disgusting this annual ritual has become. It would be greatly appreciated by those of us who like to maintain some sense of the real reason for the season.
- For the retiring Barney Frank, please bring a copy of Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner's "Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon."
Maybe after reading it he'll finally understand (too late!) how wrong he was in supporting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
- I would really appreciate it if you would send a ton of coal to the 2nd grade school teacher who saw fit to tell a classroom of 7 year olds that you don't exist.
But, if a ton of coal is too much for you and the reindeer to carry, a pink slip for her termination would be just as nice.
- I know I've asked for this before, but I unfortunately have to ask for it again... please bring either coal, or better yet, tolerance to those who would ruin this most wonderful time of year by protesting anything and everything that suggests Christmas.
- For our active service members and their families, please bring them anything and everthing they ask for with the thanks of the American people.
And, for the families of military heroes killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, bring them the peace and belief that, even though we're pulling out our troops, their loved ones' deaths were not in vain. (If you can pull this one off, Santa, I don't need any other gifts).
- Lastly, for all the readers of Dolans.com, I ask that you bring them peace, prosperity and blessings of the season from all of us here to you and yours.
Merry Christmas Santa!
Daria
