All salteen crackers are in smaller boxes, so the crackers are much smaller also. As is Campbell soup products. and many others have followed suit.
But my beef is with bathroom tissue, and all other roll products. The bathroom roll use to fit the entire
holder but now there is about an inch and a half exposed showing how much the roll has become that much smaller.
Also I have plastic tissue box of old, that now show the tissues about another inch and a half shorter in length than they that used to be.
Although we are all trying to lose weight, we still don't want our favorite candy bars to shrink any more. Right now they are almost half the size they used to be.
I have gone back into the kitchen to make cakes the size they once were. I still have the old cake pans and molds,
and I don't need to spend $7.50, for the smaller model at the grocery store. To hide how small bakers have downsized
their cakes, they are slicing them and displaying the slices in fancy trays. I could go on but I know you have the picture I have painted with words.
It may take more time to cook my meals these days, but it is good to know there are no shelf life chemicals in them I have to wonder about, and/or deal with.
Packaged, and canned foods have gotten smaller, but the population has gotten fatter. It is the hidden ingredients of sugar, oils, and other unknowns that are doing the harm.
Also, a box of cereal is now $5.00, and that is on a good day. Guess who does not eat cold cereals any more!
Thanks for giving me a place to vent. I really appreciate
the chance to do so.
Less for More at Your Local Supermarket
Categories: Family & Money Save More
I recently asked Daria how I had eaten the box of graham crackers so quickly... believe it or not I like them with peanut butter.
Rather than simply saying that I was eating more crackers quicker than ever, Daria checked the box...
There were fewer crackers in the box than the last box she bought!
But, we paid the same price! A-Ha!
Not long ago we did a piece, after talking with a supermarket expert, on some "secret" ways to stretch your food bucks.
But here's a sneaky twist you should watch for...
Because of the escalating price of many food stuffs... a number of food manufacturers have been hiding price increases by selling their products in smaller cans and packages... sometimes with different designs to make comparison shopping a little harder.
Manufacturers figure that we're busy, in a rush, so we won't notice.
Although this not a new strategy, often seen during economic downturns... it's no less insidious.
Sometimes the "less for more" strategy is hidden in offering less for the same price but in convenient, "green" packaging.
NICE TRY!
You may be less concerned by a few less potato chips or cookies in a bag... but be well aware of the tricks being pulled by some manufacturers for products that you use on a regular basis...
Candy, ketchup, ice cream, veggies, orange juice, coffee, sugar (watch out for those 4 pound, NOT 5 pound bags!)... practically no product has escaped this trickery.
We're not saying don't buy what you need... but we are saying comparison shop -- by checking weights, amounts AND prices -- you'll save money and not be disappointed when you get the food home... and prematurely run out of graham crackers!
SHOP SMART...don't become a "less for more" victim.

Why did the moderator delete this last comment. . .I also noticed that Hellman's mayo had a bump in the bottom of the jar. I wrote to them complaining and I got a long paragraph
stating that they were only answering the consumers wishes!!
Really, as a consumer I asked for one ounce less than a quart!
The bump makes it impossible to clear out the end of the mayo.
They sure talking to the wrong consumer.
