DIM BULBS's Wacky Priorities
How comforting to know that the empty suits in Washington have their priorities in order.
We are on the brink of our country not being able to pay its bills and what is one of the "priorities" in DC these days?
LIGHT BULBS!
We did talk about the debt ceiling issue the other day…so, let's take a minute to address this other "pressing" priority.
Four years ago, George W. Bush signed into law one of the dumbest pieces of legislation -among many dumb ones - which will soon sentence us to a life of energy-efficient "green" light bulbs.
Good going, W.!
But the stupidity doesn't stop there.
We have since been treated to the cherry on the top of the sundae (or the lampshade if you please), with the recent pronouncement made by Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who said, "We are taking away a choice that continues to let people waste their own money."
Excuse me?
This statement is so idiotic on so many levels I don't know where to begin.
Should I start with the wasting of one's own money? Hello!
It's my money and I’ll spend it however the hell I choose, thank you.
Or should I start with a government-appointed hack having the audacity of dictating to any citizen of a free country what they may or may not do, buy, eat, drive or think?
Oops... I forgot. We voted for hope and change. We're getting a change. But what about the hope?
I guess the hope comes with the chance to change the folks in Washington in 2012 before they dim our lights to the eternal night of government for the people but not of or by the people.
As for the light bulbs - the state of Texas has already passed a law that will allow Texans to continue buying incandescent bulbs as long as they are made deep in the heart of Texas.
Now there's a job creation stimulus I can certainly get behind.
If your supply of incandescent bulbs run out, can I interest you in a vacation in Texas?
I'll be bringing them home as a souvenir!
Oh, and by the way, at your next cocktail party, the guy with the lampshade on his head may not be a drunk but a government inspector checking to see if your host is complying with the law!
