As a Vietnam veteran (this is Ken), the 4th of July has always been a very special day for me.

Yes...it's a time for family barbecues, parties, games and parades.  But, let's not forget the real meaning of this historic day--FREEDOM.

Maybe there aren't as many parades and decorating veterans' graves as when I was a kid...but the 4th it's still an opportunity to to express our gratitude to those who have gone before us and those currently fighting for our freedom and liberty.

Freedom is at the core of every successful nation.

July 4, 1776--our Declaration of Independence against tyranny and oppression.

On July 4, 2011, the 235th anniversary of that historic day, let's declare a "Proud to be and American" day!

Sure, times are tough right now.

Millions of Americans face some very real challenges.

Despite the current tough times, let's re-commit ourselves to the future of the greatest nation in the world.

We have been through many tough times in the past (ask our forefathers !)...and there will be more rocky days ahead.

But, America has ALWAYS proved to be incredibly resilient, no matter the level of challenge.

So, as proud Americans, what better day than the 4th of July for each one of us to commit to do whatever we can do to help our country get fully back on track?!

So have a burger and a hot dog, enjoy the day with your family, attend a parade if your city or town has one...but don't forget to take just a minute from the festivities to thank those for their sacrifice in providing us with something that we should NEVER take for granted...FREEDOM.
