Scam Alert: Beware Emails about Citigroup Hacking
Categories: Banking Family & Money
DON'T FEED THE PHISH!
Another day--yet another hacking incident.
Why can't someone figure out a safer way to do business?
The latest announcement comes from Citibank.
Yesterday, they released information to the press that as many as 200,000 CITI accounts had been hacked into.
Today, we are sending all of you Citi customers a warning:
If you receive an email from Citibank do NOT click on any links in the document.
Instead, pick up your phone and call Citibank to confirm that it actually sent you an email.
Scammers who are able to design a legitimate looking email that appears to be from Citi will be hitting the internet hoping to catch the unsuspecting into giving up account numbers and other personal information.
Don't get hooked!
Of course, Citi's response to this internal breach, that of sending emails instead of contacting customers in some other manner, begs the question, "Why?"
If you couldn't keep the hackers out the first time, why would you allow the "phishers" to come in a second time with bogus emails?
Just asking.
