Time to Sell U.S. Treasuries?

Well, it’s official.

The Oracle of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, spoke in the first-ever press conference given by the Fed and he pronounced that the inflation of our food prices, our higher gas prices and even our weak first quarter economic growth are all “transitory.”

Webster’s Dictionary defines “transitory” as "not lasting, short-lived or temporary."

Phew!

I guess that means that the $32.36 that I just spent at the gas station for a whopping 7.33 gallons of gas is merely an aberration and not the norm!

Unfortunately, my gas tank only holds 10 gallons so I couldn’t sit back and wait for the "norm" if I wanted to get to the dentist’s office today.

Nor can I tell Ken to put his appetite on hold until prices return to the "norm."

Somehow, I think you have the same situation in your life.

But...not to worry because both Fed head Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geitner continue to assure us that a strong U.S. dollar is part and parcel of the stewardship of our economy.

I guess that yesterday’s flight of capital OUT of the dollar that pushed us to post-2008 lows in its value is also “transitory.”

Tell that to the gold market that closed at $1529 an ounce yesterday and, while you’re at it, mention the same to the oil and other commodities’ prices that went up.

According to “Uncle” Ben, the Fed has no control or influence over commodity prices but that doesn’t stop him from taking credit for the rise in stock prices.

Huh?!

Here’s the truth, folks.  “Uncle” Ben  and “Tiny” Tim are working in concert to trash our dollar to enable the government to inflate its way out of debt and deficit.

That strategy is NOT "transitory" and has been in place since the Bush administration.

It pains me to say it, but I believe that NOW is the time for you to consider unloading any Treasury securities that you may own!

Why?

Because what you’ll receive back in interest and return of principle in the future will NOT be worth enough to fund your goals.

Sell now before the rush begins or sit back and wish you had heeded my words as the rest of the world dumps Treasuries and you can no longer find a buyer.
