I am 74 and don't go to the doctor often. I don't trust them. My husband, rest his soul, was an officer in the air force who was shot in the head in Vietnam. We spent years visiting doctors. At one time he was on so many drugs it was crazy and the drugs made him crazy. Then Mom was on lots of drugs also, no doctor checked to see if the drugs should be mixed. They just handed out the pills like candy. Lots of the elderly are on tons of medications whether they need them or not. One neighbor was hooked on pain killers for years. Of course Medicare has been billed for all these treatments and drugs. Now Medicare will have billions taken from it to pay for other folk's care. I wish someone would explain all this to me. I am certainly confused. The government seems to take our taxes for years and then tries to make everyone happy by throwing money around like it is water. It doesn't seem to be working does it?
What's Really in the Senate's Health Care Reform Bill
Categories: Family & Money
Well, it looks like the longest suicide pact since the Kool-Aid was drunk in Jonestown, is about to be signed in the Senate at 9 P.M. Christmas eve. Interesting that the bill finally became reality with the buy-out of Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, home of the invention of Kool-Aid!
Here's what the takeover of one-seventh of our economy is going to mean to you.
1. You will be REQUIRED to have health insurance or face substantial fines.
2. Instead of a public option, insurance exchanges will be created offering government-subsidized insurance.
3. There will be an alternate government-run insurance option that will be watched over by the US Office of Personnel Management.
4. Although the plan's "benefits" won't kick in until 2014, insurance companies will immediately be barred from coverage denial to children with pre-existing conditions. Adults will have to wait for this until 2014.
5. Insurance companies will face the requirement of using at least 80% of premium dollars on customer care.
6. The expansion of Medicare for un-insured 55 year olds is DROPPED.
7. Medicaid will be expanded, as will subsidies for people needing help to buy coverage.
8. People earning over $200,000 will pay a 0.9% increase in Medicare payroll tax.
9. Small business will see $12 billion in tax credits made available to help them comply with the new law.
Since only the taxes and costs begin immediately and the "benefits" don't start until well after the next presidential election (!) in 2014, this rush to legislate begs the question, "What's the hurry?"
The Health Care Devil is in the Details
This bill and its more frightening counterpart that has already passed The House are ill-conceived and detrimental. Unfortunately, with all the behind-closed-doors wrangling going on, the bill must be passed before all the details become public knowledge (or even Congressional knowledge)!
Anyone who believes that Obamacare will only cost $871 billion over the next decade AND will reduce the deficit by $132 billion must be crazy, considering that that other bastion of government-controlled largess, Medicare, has un-funded liabilities already 2.6 times larger that last year's entire economy.
The most disgusting part of all this is that both Congressional bills, which will now seek to find common ground, do nothing to address the real problems that have contributed to a broken healthcare system: lawyers who sue and doctors who over-test to avoid those lawyers.
It says volumes when Senators have to be bought and paid for just to agree to vote yes. What a shame it wasn't your Senator or ours who held out for a little "sweetener."
Because the bill's expansion of Medicaid will be a huge financial drain on every state's already stretched and, in many cases, under-water budgets, Sen. Ben Nelson held out for the guarantee that all US taxpayers will end up paying for Nebraska's Medicaid costs "in perpetuity."
Since we'll be paying for Nebraska we might as well move there. We hear that Omaha is lovely this time of year.

I guess President Obama, will not be happy until his form of goverment controls all Americans. Great article on healthcare, and just keep the faith for better days.

The healthcare bill that we need now is simply the reform and regulation of health insurance companies. Administrative costs and profits should be limited to a percentage of premiums received. Individuals should be able to buy health insurance across state lines anywhere in the country. Clauses in contracts that restrict competition should be outlawed. National data base should be established so that lab testing and imaging need not be repeated if the patient travels to another state. Restrictions on "cherry picking" and "preexisting conditions" should be imposed immediately. THIS IS A BAD BILL THAT WILL NO DO WHAT IS INTENDED. I most likely not vote for OBAMA again. By this bad bill it is obvious the Congress has been bought.

Didn't we send these idiots to Washington to represent what WE want, not what THEY want?? Have they lost their minds? It looks like the projected cuts in Medicare will eliminate my Senior Advantage coverage. They should, all, be recalled. They will bankrupt our country, if they're not stopped.
Looks like chicken little is alive and well
Remenber Y2K the sky didn't fall then
I agree with Wanda's statement. Didn't we send these idiots to Washington to do what WE want and not what THEY want? They are brazenly ignoring the wishes of the majority of our citizens. Why don't they subject themselves to the same things they are trying to force on us?
They need term limits, a restructing of their congressional districts to be drawn where they should be drawn and not for the benefit of the person in office or running for an office, be subject to everything they want to put on us, have no big retirement fund, no pay raises if the people don't get a raise, should not be able to cater to the special interest groups that pay them to do so, past presidents or any other government official should not have body guards after they are out of office after 5 or 10 years, I could go on and on about our how government is being run and how sad it is that we have come to this.
Do they not realize there WILL be another election one day and the people are not mindless idiots and will remember who and why , do they not realize the very people who put them in office can take them out of office and correct ALL the idiotic mistakes they have made, we can and will take back AMERICA, in due time, then reverse all the stupid laws they put in and redeem AMERICA to the rightful place she should be and was, there are impeachment laws to correct such idiotic measures they are outting in place,DO NOT LOSE HEART MY FELLOW AMERICANS, this is our country fought and won by the blood and tears of our forefathers, and handed to us as our DUTY to uphold and care for for all our children to come, 3 mre years until ELECTION DAY again and this time we can and should do better, since we will have more knowledge and less trust behind us and can certainly do a better job and NO MORE LIARS just to get in control and attempt to change our tried and true constitution and religious beliefs and destroy our freedom
Norma,
It doesn't matter who is in office...they will ALL make happy promises just to be elected. Unfortunately, you can't trust ANY politician unless they will work for free.

It seems that not just anyone can run for public office without loads of money. Thus we or rather corporations buy a politician and he or she does the companies bidding. The general public doesn't have a chance. It is tragic that we, the "Little People", don't really have a voice in law making. We are just the victims in all of this. We pay taxes and hope for the best while our money is squandered. But the worse part is our sons and daughters are sent off to fight wars that just go on for ever and ever. So sad...
