Year-End Smart Money Move #3: See if the IRS Owes You Money
Here's a nice reversal for a change...the IRS might owe YOU money. Really.
The IRS is sitting on $123.5 million dollars of returned refund checks just waiting to be claimed. Most checks are returned because the taxpayer moved or changed their name and failed to notify the IRS.
Could one of the more than 107,000 unclaimed checks have your name on it? The average unclaimed refund is $1,148. That's a lot of dough, and could come in especially hand this time of year!
So take a moment to make sure you get every penny you deserve back from the IRS. Use the IRS website's "Where's My Refund" feature to make sure the IRS has your current name and address.
You can also call 1-800-829-1954 to update your address, or mail or fax Form 8822 (but this method will take the longest of the three).
This simple step will only take a moment and can add some much needed income to your budget! Be sure to let us know if you find a refund with your name on it!!
