Porkapalooza: Government Spending is out of Control--Exhibit #23
Welcome to a new regular feature on Daily Money Dish!
Porkapalooza is our way of showing you each week just what it is that you are going to work to pay for every week as a taxpayer. Government spending is out of control! We will expose government waste, fraud and idiocy so that you can see exactly how your hard earned tax dollars are being spent.
We hope that we can shine an unwelcome spotlight on these shenanigans and that you will put your representatives in Washington on notice that you are watching and won't stand for it any longer!
The "project" we want to expose today is the end result of your generous contribution to taxes and it takes place this morning on Capitol Hill.
Through a tax funded research grant to the National Science Foundation, NSF researchers will be briefing Congress on the best way for members to improve their voter approval ratings. In other words, you are working your butt off to pay for research that will show your member of Congress how he or she can become more popular with voters. Seriously.
The report includes such important research analysis as how to avoid face-to-face town hall meetings with constituents and instead have effective on-line meetings; the impact participation in those August town hall meetings (in particular) had on constituents' views of their own Congressional representative; the demographics of the town hall groups and how the study was conducted.
And you thought tax money going to the NSF went for research on cures for cancer, heart disease and other life threatening diseases. What were you thinking?
You can't make this stuff up, folks.
Here are a dozen more ways the government is wasting your money as we speak...
Do you have wasteful government spending you want us to share with the world? Be sure to leave a comment and maybe it will make next week's pork roll!
