Noble Piece Prize

No, we haven't forgotten how to spell and this isn't about Barack Obama's winning of the Nobel Peace Prize last week.

This is aimed at anyone still convinced that you should be invested in stocks to try and recapture what you lost last year. We contend that that strategy may, indeed, be noble. However, you could wind up with just a mere piece of your investment left when the "silly season" ends on Wall Street.

As the Dow inches toward the 10,000 mark, please listen carefully, because we have yet another indication that all is not perfect for continuing stock market gains.

While the Dow has gained more than 50% his year, the S&P more than 58% and Nasdaq 68%, the people on the inside of companies have been dumping their shares right, left and sideways.

According to InsiderScore, which tracks the buying and selling of officers and directors of publicly traded firms, insiders bought only $410 million of company shares while unloading almost $7.4 billion of their shares in the third quarter.

When the people running these firms start taking their money off their own table in such volume, how strong can the economic environment really be?

Makes us wonder what the Wall Street analysts are smoking these days.

And remember, if you have money that you need in the next five years, it should NOT be invested in the stock market.
