Mother Nature has wreaked HAVOC on our country this year!  The bill for natural disasters in 2011 has already topped $1 BILLION!

Today, let’s talk about the #1 natural disasters in the U.S. each year:  Floods.

You can’t avoid being in the path of a hurricane like Irene or any other kind of natural disaster, but you can be prepared, and, for many of us, better prepared.

The  clean up and aftermath is almost unimaginable as states in the Northeast and the Carolina coast continue to struggle to rebuild roads and bridges, restore power and tame waterways still coursing with flood waters brought by Irene.

With Hurricane Irene long gone, Vermont, New Jersey and upstate New York continue to struggle with some of the worst flooding, with about a dozen communities still unreachable except by air, with the National Guard dropping essentials to residents.

And now, some rivers continued to rise from heavy rains brought on by Tropical Storm Lee, prompting more evacuations and flooding as communities are still reeled from the lingering effects of Hurricane Irene.

But not all of the damage occurs in flood zones.

Next: Flood insurance not just for beaches.
