Negotiating Tip #1

A successful negotiation is one in which both sides win. Figure out what both you and the other party want to ultimately accomplish before diving right in. Make it clear that you understand their position and what they are trying to get out of the situation, too.

For example, how about exchanging some of your old gold and silver jewelry at your local shop for that new bracelet you've been eyeing in the window? Or setting up a small business web site in exchange for a home fix-up project? Exchanging services is a great way to make sure everyone winds up satisfied.
