Nothing Beats the Smell of Sunshine
LM, Austin, TX
I stopped using my dryer and hang all of my laundry on the clothesline outside instead. I love the smell of the sunshine in my sheets. And I read somewhere that it is healthier, too.
The Dolans say: A little stiffness in your laundry may be worth the savings! Electric dryers are often among the top energy uses in a home–right behind refrigerators, lighting and water heaters. However, for most Americans, the dryer is still an important necessity ... not a luxury. In a recent survey, the clothes dryer ranked second on the appliance necessity list.
If you aren't able to dry your clothes outside, there are ways to make your dryer more efficient–remember that a clean dryer vent is a green dryer vent. Clear the lint every other load. Also using an Energy Star washing machine will remove more water and use less energy in your dryer.
