Want to save money on your cell phone? Prepaid is the only way to fly, with no bills or overages or other funky stuff.

I use Straight Talk. It's unlimited for $45 a month, prepaid (so no bills) and on Verizon's network... the best.

Unlimited talk and texts, plus 30MB of data, which is about 350 web pages. Fantastic deal.

It's available at http://www.StraightTalk.com

Same here i canceled my T-mobile account i was paying $49.00 per month
for only 300 minutes but only used 100 minutes per month.
went with a prepaid called Net10.com its only 10 cents per minute i singed up
for the 150 minute packaged for $15.00 per month awesome service great phone.
you also get 300 minutes free when you purchase the phone.

I also have Straight Talk, which is just an amazing deal.

I was skeptical at first but everything good I'd heard about it is true.

No more crappy coverage from AT+T. The Verizon network is solid and I haven't dropped a call yet.

I think $45 a month is fantastic and I got a very nice Samsung phone with a qwerty keyboard so texting and web surfing is easy too.

I'm saving hundreds of dollars a year now so it's pretty awesome.

I'm not the only one who thinks so, either.

Here's another happy Straight Talk-er:

Saving money on cable and cell bills can somehow help. Recession affects our budget very much that's why people must tighten their belts and avoid unnecessary expenditures. Even the education of our children are affected too. Some prefer to stop from schooling because they cannot already afford the tuition fees. But good news there are a lot of different ways to pay for college, depending of course. Some universities have manageable enough tuition, and a person can work and pay for it concurrently. However, private universities will require you to talk to some loan lenders at some point. The prospective student should fill out a FAFSA, and also consult with a guidance counselor on how best to pay for their college education depending on circumstances. There are grants and scholarships available, both federal and private. Scholarship is helpful enough to pursue the education of our children.

I bundled my services with AT&T the end of September except for the TV/Video. And, the only thing I have received out of it is a different & outrageous phone bill every month (before my bill was always the same, I had Complete Choice, Unlimited Long Distance, etc.). I didn't hook up the DSL because I was waiting for them to get my bill straight; however, I was billed for it and equipment charges every month.
I have called them every month to get the matter straight. I have also written to several offices of AT&T, and sent an e-mail. They won't even tell me where to send the equipment back to.
When I subscribed the rep said my phone bill would be even a little less than what I have been paying and I would be able to keep my unlimited long distance,Complete Choice and all I already had for this price. They have charged me for every long distance call every month. They would give me a little credit and each month thereafter they would put a message on my bill that if all the charges were not paid (they would list a large amount) they were going to disconnect my service.
Some of the employees I have talked with were very rude and unaccommodating and unwilling to resolve the problem.
There is a lot more problems I have endured since switching to AT&T DSL bundle.
Can anyone help me? AT&T won't even try to -- Even the Customer Complaint Office.

There is NO WAY I will give up my landline telephone—it's the only one that works when there is no electricity. Another good reason for a gas stove (in addition to the control factor for cooking). Agreed 100% with the commenters about pay-as-you-go cell phone service—I bought a refurbished phone from TracFone with a double-minutes-for-life card (first 3 months [definitely] and 100 minutes [maybe fewer] included) on October, just added 2 years service and 2000 minutes for just $200. I'm set until Jan. 2012, and I only use the phone for emergencies—if I used 200 minutes in the last two months, it was a lot; rarely make more than 3 calls a week, usually <2 minutes each. Best of all, any minutes left in Jan. 2012 when I need to renew service roll over, pretty much forever.
I would really not like bundling service—a dispute with one company affects everything. INternet and telephone (DSL and landline), O.K., but not TV—which I got free until last June! Drat that government, anyway; one of the most regressive moves in decades, and there have been lots!

Agree with Sally G on NOT giving up the landline phone. Live on the Gulf Coast and after 2 major hurricanes in 5 years, the landline was our only form of communication for the first 3 days. We have Verizon but it was so overloaded that we could not call out. Verizon also was great in giving us credit during a specific amount of time. We had no electricity for two weeks and I won't even tell you how long we had no cable. I like the idea of bundling (which tv & internet are) but Mother Nature has definitely ruled out the complete package.

My wife and I ditched the landline in 2005. We used AT&T cell phones for a total of $81/month until February 2009. We were happy with AT&T service, but we were able to cut our costs greatly by switching to Page Plus Cellular prepaid. Then, in August of 2009, we installed an ooma, which I purchased for a net cost of $176 at Walmart online. The ooma gives us local and long distance calling using a landline phone via our broadband cable connection (i.e. VoiP). There is no monthly or annual fee for the ooma. Our monthly cost for cell service now averages less than $20/month. Hence, our phone costs have gone down by $61/month since February '09.
