Industries and technology are always changing, and keeping up with the times is key to making yourself vital and important to your employer or making you more marketable for your next job. Many employers reimburse for work-related training and education, so you may even be able to do it on the company's dime. Be sure to ask!

Go to conferences and training programs, take courses, read professional journals, and stay on top of developments in your field. Vow to learn at least one new skill every year. This way you'll have capabilities that are in demand.
