#1: Become a Model Employee
No matter what your job entails, do it better than anyone else. If that means coming in earlier and staying later than co-workers, DO IT! The first employee out of the building at 5 p.m. loses.
Be a problem solver. In a recession, all companies face some difficulties. Even if you don't come up with the perfect solution, you will enhance your reputation as a team player just by asking.
If, because of a hiring freeze or layoffs, you're asked to take on more work, dive in with enthusiasm - even if you're over-qualified for the job. Remember the old showbiz adage, "There are no bit parts, only bit (and often out-of-work) players."
