Just because we're in a recession, doesn't mean that couples planning weddings this year should up and elope to avoid an expensive reception.
Nor does it necessarily follow that those fortunate enough to be uneffected financially by this long down-turn should be sparing no expense. Spending thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars on a wedding bash, doesn't guarantee a happy marriage!
You can still be elegant by having a cocktail reception instead of a full sit-down dinner. You can still have music and dancing throughout the celebration. But by using finger foods at buffet tables and wait staff with trays of hor d'oeuvres passing through the group all through the reception you can create an elegant ambiance without the expense of a full sit-down meal.
Splurge, if you must, on the wedding cake and other desserts for the end, with the full cake-cutting ceremoney and bouquet toss.
The added plus in this scenario is that with limited seating you won't have to worry about where to place relatives who don't get along!
Discussing financial matters is crucial to a healthy, successful marriage. Check out these resources to start your life together on the right foot:
