Area #3: Energy
President Obama will focus on energy issues early on in an effort to create more jobs, but his focus will be a "cap and trade" bill that was defeated not long ago.
Cap and Trade is a pollution-managing method in which the government caps the amount of pollution allowed and issues carbon credits to businesses. Think of these credits as pollution "licenses." If a business doesn't use all of its credits, they can sell them to other companies that need more credits because if a company can't get its pollution under control, it will pay a fine to the government.
We believe that this idea is a job killer rather than a job creator.
Buying credits costs money; paying penalties costs money. Companies such as your electric supplier will be forced to seek increases in rates from consumers in order to pay the freight to run their companies with the least amount employees that they are able.
In the meantime, you can still reduce your energy costs and help the environment at the same time. Check out our 9 ways to save green by going green.
