EIGHTH COMMANDMENT:
Thou Shalt Always Get the Salesperson's Name
There are several great reasons for getting the name of the salesperson you're dealing with. You can build a personal relationship with that individual if you know each other's names. Now, you're not just a customer, you're a real person. If you do repeat business with that person, he or she will value you as an important customer. As a result, you're more likely to get a little extra bit of service from the company. But it gets even better: If you ever do have a problem, you'll sound more in control when you can reference the salesperson by name.
NINTH COMMANDMENT:
Thou Shalt Always Know Who Can Resolve Any Problems
When you buy something, ask who you need to talk to if you encounter a problem. If you need to contact the manufacturer, get their name, address and phone number. If you need to contact someone at the store, get that person's name, not just his or her title. If the company's headquarters are located elsewhere, get a contact name and address for that as well.
Then if you ever do have a problem with something you've bought, you'll save valuable time and energy because you'll know exactly who to write or call to get your problem resolved to your satisfaction. Where should you put this information to keep it handy? In your spiral notebook, of course - right next to your receipt!
TENTH COMMANDMENT :
Thou Shalt Never Settle for Less Than 100% Satisfaction
It's important that you never settle for less than absolute satisfaction. Eleanor Roosevelt once said "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." This holds true for anything you buy. Buy only what you really want or need. If you hesitate, chances are you have some reservations–which may turn to regret. Better to walk away.
Don't fall for the pressure sell. If it's good enough to buy today, it'll be better tomorrow. It's okay to leave a store empty-handed. You don't have to buy anything. But if you're feeling pressure from a sales rep, here's the Dolans' no-guilt, fool-proof exit line: "I really love this, but I have to check with my spouse before I buy." Of course, this only works if you don't bring your spouse with you!
These Ten Commandments are the easiest way for you to start off with the best product or service possible.
