Do you ever wonder if you're finances are on track for a secure retirement? One of the best ways to determine if they are is making use of one of the many online calculators.
But make sure you pick a good one. Here are just two of many available.
NASD.com's calculator is quick and easy but don't relay on its default estimates. For example, life expectancy defaults to 85 unless you input an age.
www.AARP.org's calculator is more detailed than the NASD'S. You can project your own investment rate of return. Don't guess at a number too high. Use 7% or less for safety.
Some calculators will ask you to include your Social Security benefits. To be safe, only use half of your estimated benefit. Who knows what Congress will eventually do to try and fix the Social Security System?
Whether the calculator nails your retirement income or misses by a mile, the very act of going through the exercise will focus you on saving more money.
